Cultivating a Green Future for Sustainable Growth with SMS Group 2025

On February 7–8 2025, SMS hosted "Cultivating a Green Future for Sustainable Growth with SMS Group 2025" at Vimandin Training and Development Center, Mahidol University, Kanchanaburi Campus. The project featured two key activities: building check dams and planting forests to expand green areas, enrich biodiversity, and enhance environmental sustainability. This initiative aimed to promote a green culture and strengthen environmental networks in collaboration with key stakeholders, including SMS and our partners.

This collaborative project was led by Dr. Werawat Lertwanawatana, CEO, together with Nattachai Wanglee and Khem Wanglee, Managing Directors of SMS Corporation.

Restoring Ecological Balance Through Bamboo Plantation

Bamboo, known for its rapid growth, plays a crucial role in carbon absorption, soil erosion prevention, and biodiversity enhancement. It also supports the ecosystem by preserving water resources, reducing ambient temperatures, and providing habitats for wildlife. This plantation project is a significant step toward forest restoration and expanding green spaces for a healthier environment.

Participants plant 100 bamboo trees of five different species—Guadua angustifolia kunth, Sangmon, Kimsung, Tongwan, and Bongpa—on an area spanning approximately 1.6 acres. The initiative aims to conserve and cultivate diverse bamboo species while promoting environmental sustainability.

Conserving Water and Forests Through Check Dam Construction

The project continues with the construction of 15 check dams. These structures help prevent soil erosion, slow down water flow, and enhance water retention, ultimately improving soil moisture levels and promoting biodiversity. The increased water retention not only benefits surrounding ecosystems but also creates a better living environment for aquatic species and serves as a water resource for humans and animals.
