Bioplastic from TAPIOPLAST, the alternative to Solve Plastic bags Clogging Bangkok’s Sewers, Fighting Against the Flood sms-underline

On September 23rd, SMS as a member of TBIA proposed the vital key to solving the flooding problem in Bangkok to Dr. Chadchart Sittipunt – the Governor of Bangkok.

Mr. Viboon Pruengprasert (the president of TBIA), Dr. Siwarutt Boonyaratanakalin (Assistant Innovation Director of SMS Group), Dr. Wantanee Jongkam (the Consultant of TBIA), and Dr. Tuangporn Tukomane (Senior Sales General Manager) met the governor of Bangkok, proposing the practical use to solve plastic waste which leads many impacts to the environmental phenomenon in Thailand.

It was such a great honor to have been consulting the serious problem in the heart of the city, Bangkok, where the flood hit continually. It is said that Bangkok’s drainage system was old and not enough to manage the amount of water. however, having the drain improved and replanned will no longer help if the huge amount of plastic waste is still clogged.

In line with this effort, BIOPLASTIC became a viable solution that biodegrades naturally and circulates back to nature, not remaining as plastic waste. SMS has been innovating Bioplastic products and sustainable value chain solutions through the use of renewable biomass resources which achieve a Circular Economy Ecosystem.

TAPIOPLAST®TPS is a functional bioplastic resin derived from natural cassava. It is engineered to lead the way to sustainability by providing fast biodegradation and bio-content at a more affordable price than other biodegradable polymers. The Bioplastic bags, garbage bags, and straw made from TAPIOPLAST®TPS will commit full degradation within 4 months without leaving residue in the environment but biomass back to nature.

The company is glad to have been a part to take action to solve problems in societies with sustainable products from tapioca innovation.
